TIPS TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SESSION

The most frequent question I get asked is - what do I wear?!

First decide on what colours look best on you.

It's best to choose colours that lie in the mid-tone area of the colour spectrum or the muted or dark tones.

Solid colours do work best in mid-tone ie. grey, blue, black, red, purple.

Avoid patterns and logos unless they are part of your brand.

Try to avoid white or light colours if you have very fair skin as it will wash you out, unless you are layering.

It's best to wear colors that compliment your skin tone. If you don't know what tones look best on you look at the your wrist in the light to determine.

If your veins are blue or purple, you have cool skin. Cool skin undertones, you tend to look great in jewel tones - cool blues, lighter pinks, emerald green, purple, navy blue, white, and black.

If your veins are green or olive, you have warm skin. Warm skin undertones, you tend to look better in earthy colours like olives, mustard, burgundy, orange, cream, warm browns and rosy pinks.

If your veins and blue-green - you are in the neutral skin tones. Neutral undertones, can wear both cool and warm tones. You can look at your hair colour and eye colour to determine where what tone they are to help you determine this or you may find your stay with cool colours in the winter and warm colours in the summer.

Now that you've determined what colours look best on you, follow the tips below to help you prepare for your session. Let's also book a quick consult so I can answer any questions you may have.

Keep it simple. Solid colours work best in mid-tone ie. grey, blue, black, red, purple.

Layering is a great option. For example, choose a skirt/dress and blouse and layer with a blazer. Then you have the option to remove the blazer for a different look.

Wear heels over flats. They help to elongate the legs and make you naturally stand up straight.

Necklines that are too revealing and will show undergarments and straps underneath.

Keep jewelry to a minimum. Choose simple earrings and necklaces to focus the on you.

Make sure your clothes are ironed and pressed and any lint removed.

 Hair

If you are trying a new look/cut make sure you do this at least two weeks prior to your session.

Consider getting your hair professionally done before your session.

If you are doing your own hair you can bring with you products that you prefer to use for touch ups. I do keep supplies at the studio as well.

Makeup

Keep your look natural and bring additional makeup to add if necessary.

Keep lipstick light and can be added after a test shot.

If you are doing your own make up bring your Consider having your makeup professionally done before your session.

Skin

Don't do any extreme beauty regimens the day before your session (ie. facials, tanning, exfoliating).

You many want to clean up any unwanted hair (eyebrows, lip area).

Brush your lips with a toothbrush the night before to remove dead skin.

Drink lots of water the week leading up to your session to hydrate your skin and reduce puffy eyes.

Other Helpful Tips

If you're wearing nail polish and it does not match your outfit, or look, it's best to remove it or wear a neutral colour that does not pop out - unless that's the look you want.

If you wear glasses make sure they are clean for your session.

Have some fun and practice posing before your session! It may feel uncomfortable but it really helps!

Leave the rest to me! It's my job to capture the best you, so you can share your images with confidence!
